Comment: Wow...just listened to the new CD by Chrisette Michele "I Am One". Influenced by Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn, and Natalie Cole but still has her own style. Didn't know that India Aire heard her perform at a local nightclob, while she was a struggling Artist in New York and offered Chrissete a spot as her opening act on a nationial tour. L.A. Reid/Def Jam allow this Artist to grow and let the public discover this real talent. She also co-wrote all of her tracks and had assistance from John Legend, BabyFace and the under rated kat who helped produce Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black", Hip Hop Producer Salaam Remi who also works with Nas. Watch out now and don't sleep.....

Comment: BY HILLARY CROSLEY Rapper T.I. is showcasing a darker side on his album 'T.I. vs T.I.P.,' due July 3. Much of the public knows T.I. as the super-stylish rapper who guests in Justin Timberlake videos and makes the ladies swoon. But hip-hop heads and those closest to T.I. know he's a man fighting demons and thus fighting to hold onto his career momentum. That's the essence of T.I.'s new album. He is the pop star, focused on expanding his horizons and his bottom line. T.I.P. -- a childhood nickname later shortened to T.I. -- is the bad boy. No doubt, life has been good. His last album, 'King,' featured arguably the song of the year in 2006, 'What You Know.' The song was the theme for the movie in which he starred, 'ATL.' T.I.P. -- friends and label execs refer to him as 'Tip' -- always seems to be lurking around the corner. In 1997, a pre-rap T.I.P. was convicted on drug charges and giving authorities a false name. Then in 2004, T.I. served roughly four months jail for violating probation. The new album mixes plenty of still-hood tracks and some poppier moments. 'I can never go pop -- the 'hood is in me,' T.I. says. 'I'm just going for a different audience than I usually target."

Comment: By Avis Thomas-Lester Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, June 15, 2007; B01 Just walking into Largo High School left Larue Campbell feeling the most profound loss. Fliers about the school's upcoming prom reminded him that he never attended his own. Posters announcing commencement ceremonies left him wondering what it would have been like to stroll across the stage in a cap and gown as his loved ones cheered. But instead of taking part in prom and graduation, Campbell was at Largo for night school classes to prepare for the GED exam. Last spring, he dropped out of high school, one of hundreds of Washington area African American males to do so each year. "If I hadn't dropped out, I wouldn't have to go through this now," said Campbell of his attempt to earn a high school equivalency diploma. "I thought about going back after I left" school, "but I thought I would be too old. I was kind of embarrassed." In dropping out, Campbell became part of a disturbing trend -- black male students who walk out on their own education. Statistics show that more than 50 percent of black male students fail to graduate with their class each year. In some urban jurisdictions such as New York and Chicago, upwards of two-thirds of them leave high school before graduation, according to a study by the Schott Foundation for Public Education. In Maryland, 46 percent of black male teenagers dropped out during the 2003-04 school year, compared with 22 percent of white males. In Virginia, 47 percent dropped out, compared with 27 percent of white male students, and in the District, the dropout rate for black males was 51 percent, compared with 5 percent of white males, the report said. Experts said the implications are stark: Dropouts struggle to find good jobs; they become teen fathers, get arrested and abuse drugs and alcohol at a much higher rate than that of their counterparts who graduate from high school. Alvin Thornton, a Howard University administrator and author of the study that led Maryland to pump more than a billion additional dollars into its schools, blames a number of factors, among them the lack of early learning opportunities, absent parenting and a shortage of programs to engage these students in school. "I think if we ever had any other community that found its male children suffering as they are in our community -- they would institute programs and demand that others, like government, help to address the problem," Thornton said. Many dropouts, he said, experience problems as early as the elementary years. "It's called the fourth-grade syndrome, and it's the time when schools move away from them and they become lost and alienated."Sleeping Late

Comment: It's 3 p.m. on a weekday and Campbell is watching Nickelodeon with his 5-year-old niece. He had planned to look for a job today, but didn't. He has no car because he can't afford one. His cellphone was recently turned off because he didn't pay the bill. Most days, Campbell, who lives with his aunt, Lillian Hicks, sleeps late, eats, then watches TV. He might compose or listen to some rap music, a hobby. Or he might check the want ads. "I've gone to a few places, but I haven't found anything yet," he said. Tall and lanky with thick tinted locks, Campbell has an easygoing demeanor and a gentle smile. He is uncharacteristically polite for a teenager, answering questions with "yes, ma'am" and "no, ma'am." Since he dropped out, Campbell has held several part-time jobs, including ones at Ben's Chili Bowl and McDonald's. He recently got a call to interview at a restaurant at the Boulevard at the Capital Centre, but he didn't go. "I didn't have no money to get up there," Campbell said. His aunt's eyes flashed. "Larue, did you open up your mouth and call them and tell them that?" Hicks asked, hands on her hips. "Did you try to get there? There is nothing wrong with your feet. If you really wanted that job, you would have gone after it. If you wanted to get to the go-go and you didn't have money, you would have figured out how to get there." The teenager shrugged. Campbell pines for a more comfortable life, one with more stability and less drama than the one he's lived. For several years, his home has been the split-level house near the District line that Hicks owns and shares with her family and his grandmother, who is legally blind and chronically ill.

Comment: Campbell's brother, a student at Largo, lives nearby with other relatives. His mother and father, who live out of state, both dropped out of high school. His mother left him with his grandmother at an early age. His father has spent time in jail, he said. "When you have absent parents, there's no one who can really discipline the child . . .," Hicks said. "I took a risk and let him come here to live because I believe he can turn himself around." Campbell points to his sophomore year at Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter High School in Northeast Washington as the beginning of his school troubles. After a successful ninth-grade year, he began skipping to hang out with older friends about the time he and his grandmother moved to Prin ce George's County from the District. "When I started hooking, my grandmother got mad," he said. "She went up to my school and told them, 'He don't want to be here. He lives in Maryland, anyway.' They put me out." He transferred to Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, where he found more opportunities to skip. Nobody addressed his chronic truancy, he said. He was suspended only twice for truancy, even though he missed dozens of days his sophomore year and more than a third of his junior year. "It was like it wasn't a big deal to anybody, so it wasn't a big deal to me," he said. Because there were no consequences, quitting was easy. Not Getting the Basics Prince George's County District Judge Herman Dawson, who regularly deals with the issue in his courtroom, said skipping school and lack of educational support at home leaves many young people unprepared to survive high school. "They are not getting the basics in elementary school, so by the time they get to high school, they have lost interest," Dawson said. "They can't compete. Because they can't compete, they become disruptive and eventually they end up leaving." Neville Adams, an English teacher at Parkdale High School in New Carrollton, said many black male students are pushed out. "If you don't come to school or you walk the halls," you "will be withdrawn from school, and that basically leaves them with no place to go," he said. " Later, they just don't go back. We don't try to find out why kids aren't learning or why they're not coming to class, we just write them off." In Prince George's, 39 percent of African American male students dropped out during the 2003-04 school year, according to the Schott report. That compared with 43 percent for white male students. Yet the county, along with Montgomery , where 36 percent of black males dropped out, was credited with success in retaining such students and graduating them at a rate similar to the national average for white male high school graduates, the report said. Educators said that while Prince George's does better than many jurisdictions, the dropout rate is still too high.

Comment: We have got to do a better job of engaging these students, helping them to overcome the problems that make them lag behind and eventually drop out," said Howard Stone, a former Prince George's school board member. Campbell said several of his friends also dropped out, like his best friend, Larry Smith, 20, of Capitol Heights, who left school in his senior year. Smith took the GED exam and passed it a few months later. On a recent afternoon, the two talked about their regrets and their futures. Smith wants to be a race-car driver. Campbell, he said, could be his crew chief. "Just because you drop out doesn't mean you don't have plans," Smith said. "It doesn't mean you don't have a future." Lately, Campbell said, he has cut back on his television time to study for the GED. Once enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, he is worried about the math portion of the exam. "I'm hoping I will do well because this will open up another door if I do," he said. "I'll be one step closer to the way I want to be -- working, living comfortably." Campbell had planned to take the exam this week but hit a snag: He failed to send in the $32 application fee. "I'm very upset because I wanted to get it done," he said. "I wanted to start having those doors opened. I still plan to do it." Staff researcher Meg Smith contributed to this report

Comment: By Carmen Greco, Jr. Special to the Tribune June 20, 2007, 3:24 PM CDT A Joliet woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison today for scalding her 3-year-old stepson while giving him a bath. Attorneys for Nancy Delbosque, who has remained in jail in lieu of $2 million bond, argued at her sentencing hearing that the 30-year-old woman unintentionally inflicted third-degree burns on the legs of the child. "This whole thing was an accident," said her attorney, James McCarron. "This woman has three kids, she goes to college. ... She's never even had a traffic ticket." He also pointed to testimony from her sister-in-law, who said in court today that Delbosque was a good mother and kept a clean house. But at her bench trial in April, Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt convicted Delbosque of aggravated battery to a child, citing medical testimony that indicated the boy would have had to be in the tub for 10 seconds to suffer the third-degree burns that covered his legs. A police officer testified during the trial that Delbosque originally told him she was out of the room during the Feb. 11, 2006, incident and heard the child screaming. But he said she later changed the story, saying she placed the boy in the bathtub and thought he was screaming because he did not want to take a bath. Schoenstedt sided with prosecutors. "Based on the medical testimony, she would have known instantly if the water was too hot," he said during the trial. The boy was hospitalized in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for about 3 months. Delbosque faced a prison sentence of between 6 and 30 years.

Comment: June 20, 2007, 3:06 PM CDT Bail was set at $1 million today for a former waitress, and denied for the alleged gunman, in what authorities said was the retaliatory killing of a Hyde Park restaurant manager. Police originally believed the June 2006 slaying of Corey Ebenezer, 26, as he was closing up at Leona's, stemmed from a robbery attempt. But authorities now believe Erika Ray, 25, a waitress at the restaurant at 1236 E. 53rd St., was complicit in the killing of Ebenezer after he fired her one evening and told her to leave. Ray went to the home of an acquaintance, Lorenzo Wilson, 19, told him what had happened and persuaded him and others to return to the eatery with her "to retaliate," Police Cmdr. Pat Walsh said. Ray drove Wilson, her 15-year-old cousin and others to the restaurant and while Ray stayed in the car, the others entered the back door and saw Ebenezer counting money from the evening's receipts, according to Walsh. Wilson pulled a .25-caliber gun on Ebenezer and the two started to struggle, Assistant State's Atty. Adam Weber said today. During the fight, Wilson shot Ebenezer once, Weber said. Meanwhile, another member of the group stole money from the cash drawer, authorities said. Before the suspects fled, Wilson shot Ebenezer again, Weber said. Ebenezer died of gunshot wounds in the head and chest. Bail was set for Ray, who has been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, and denied for Wilson, who was arrested and charged in Florida last week. Ray's cousin is expected to appear in Juvenile Court to face charges.

Comment: Good morning, family. Tragic stories this morning. The article about drop outs was very interesting. I only knew two people that dropped out of high school back when I was going. Now I know or know of a bunch in our community. How to turn this around? It's got to be more than lack of support for education at home, because even back in the day there were parents that had a laisez-faire attitude about school, but the kids still finished. True a lot of them were only pushed through, but they got that piece of paper that would allow them to move on.

Comment: Crowd kills man after car hits child By LIZ AUSTIN PETERSON, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 22 minutes ago Police on Wednesday were pleading for witnesses to help them track down members of an angry mob that beat a man to death after the car he was riding in apparently struck and injured a child. Investigators were struggling to piece together what happened Tuesday when David Rivas Morales died defending the driver from members of a crowd. There could have been anywhere from two to 20 attackers, Austin Police Commander Harold Piatt said. The car in which Morales, 40, was a passenger had entered an apartment complex's parking lot when it struck a 2-year-old boy, Piatt said. The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver got out of the car to check on the child and was confronted by several people, Piatt said. When they attacked the driver, Morales got out of the car to protect the driver and was attacked as well. Police said no guns or knives were used. The driver got away and is cooperating with investigators. Police identified the child as Michael Hosea Jr. There were conflicting accounts of how many people were in the area. Police originally estimated 2,000 to 3,000 and a woman who lives at the complex said hundreds who had been at a Juneteenth festival filled the parking lot and street. But late Wednesday police spokeswoman Toni Chovanetz said only 20 people were in the area where the %*$ault occurred. Chovanetz also said there was no connection to the nearby city-sponsored festival for Juneteenth, which commemorates Texas slaves getting the word that they had been freed. Margaret Morales said a young boy came to her door to tell her that her brother was lying on the ground outside. She found David Morales, sprawled on the pavement 100 feet from her townhouse, battered and choking on blood.

Comment: WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- New Zealand authorities have blocked a couple's bid to officially name their new son "4real," saying numerals are not allowed. Pat and Sheena Wheaton said they decided to name their new baby "4real" shortly after having an ultrasound and being struck by the reality of his impending arrival. "For most of us, when we try to figure out what our names mean, we have to look it up in a babies book and ... there's no direct link between the meaning and the name," Pat Wheaton told TV One on Wednesday. "With this name, everyone knows what it means." But when the parents filed the name with New Zealand's Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, they were told names beginning with a number were against the rules. The government office has opened negotiations with the parents about the name under a policy that says all unusual names must be given case-by-case consideration. "The name has not at this stage been rejected," Registrar-General Brian Clarke said in a statement Thursday. "We are currently in discussions with the parents ... to clarify the situation." Clarke said the rules are designed to prevent names that are "likely to cause offense to a reasonable person." Satan and Adolf Hitler were proposed names that have been declined, he said. If no compromise has been reached by July 9, the baby will be registered as "real," officials say. New Zealand law requires all children born in the South Pacific nation to be registered with the Births, Deaths and Marriages registry within two months of birth.

Comment: Naked couple die from S.C. rooftop fall Wed Jun 20, 11:33 AM ET Police on Wednesday were investigating how a naked couple fell 50 feet from the roof of a downtown office building to their deaths. The bodies were found on the road by a passing cabdriver around 5 a.m. Wednesday. Clothing was discovered on the roof, leading authorities to suspect the man and woman, in their early 20s, may have been having sex. Their identities were not released. "It's too early to rule out anything," Columbia police Sgt. Florence McCants said, but McCants said a preliminary investigation didn't show any sign of foul play.

Comment: Spoonful of cinnamon helps blood sugar stay down Wed Jun 20, 3:31 PM ET Adding some cinnamon to your dessert may temper the blood sugar surge that follows a sweet treat, a new study suggests. Researchers at Malmo University Hospital in Sweden found that adding a little more than a teaspoon of cinnamon to a bowl of rice pudding lowered the post-meal blood sugar rise in a group of healthy volunteers. The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, add to evidence from past studies that cinnamon may aid in blood sugar control. However, it's too early to prescribe cinnamon as a therapy for diabetes, a disorder in which blood sugar levels soar because the body cannot properly use the sugar-regulating hormone insulin. Dr. Joanna Hlebowicz and her colleagues based their findings on 14 healthy volunteers who had their blood sugar measured before and after eating a bowl of rice pudding; each volunteer was tested after eating plain rice pudding and after having a cinnamon-spiced version. Post-pudding blood tests, which were taken repeatedly over 2 hours, showed that volunteers' blood sugar rose to a lesser degree when they had the cinnamon dessert. One reason for the effect seems to be that cinnamon slows the rate at which food passes from the stomach to the intestines, according to Hlebowicz's team. Using ultrasound scans, they found that the volunteers showed a slower rate of "gastric emptying" when they ate the cinnamon rice pudding. Whether people with diabetes should start spicing their diets with cinnamon remains to be seen. One small study, Hlebowicz and her colleagues note, found that when people with type 2 diabetes added cinnamon to their diets for 40 days, their blood sugar and cholesterol levels tended to dip.

Comment: SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A lake in southern Chile has mysteriously disappeared, prompting speculation the ground has simply opened up and swallowed it whole....The lake was situated in the Magallanes region in Patagonia and was fed by water, mostly from melting glaciers. It had a surface area of between 4 and 5 hectares (10-12 acres) -- about the size of 10 soccer pitches. "In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal ... we went again in May and to our surprise we found the lake had completely disappeared," said Juan Jose Romero, regional director of Chile's National Forestry Corporation CONAF. "The only things left were chunks of ice on the dry lake-bed and an enormous fissure," he told Reuters. CONAF is investigating the disappearance. One theory is that the area was hit by an earth tremor that opened a crack in the ground which acted like a drain. Southern Chile has been shaken by thousands of minor earth tremors this year.

Comment: FUNNY: "Pac-Man Jones: 'I Will Be Nowhere Near Next Friday's Strip-Club Stabbing' LOS ANGELES—Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pac-Man" Jones called a press conference Tuesday in order to emphasize that he will be nowhere near a possibly fatal stabbing that will occur during a fight involving several members of his entourage and the bartender at an L.A.–area strip club this coming Friday. "I just want people to know that I'm not going to be present at Shaker's, the club where possibly about to be deceased chump-%*$ bartender Darrent Wilson has been known to exchange harsh language and threats with my known associates, including kicking me and my people out of his establishment," said Jones, who is also currently being questioned by police concerning a recent shooting at an Atlanta strip club and is currently on suspension from the NFL following a melee and shooting in February at a Las Vegas strip club. "I am sorry for what is about to happen to this man, who will be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it will have had nothing to do with me." Jones also took the opportunity to appeal once more to the NFL for leniency in a case of what he called "bad luck." "I will be going to bed at midnight on Friday anyway, and the gentleman in question will not be knifed until about 3 a.m.," Jones added. "And about Wednesday I'm deciding to give up strip clubs anyway, since bad stuff can happen there, especially when employees act unreasonable. Just because I know the guys who will be there when this happens doesn't necessarily mean I knew it was going to happen." The fight, which sources close to Jones say will apparently start as an argument over a woman, will involve Wilson and at least three as-yet unidentified members of Jones' group, although witnesses will not be able to place Jones at the scene. When contacted about the incident, Jones plans to promise to cooperate with authorities in their investigation and pray for Wilson's speedy recovery, if the bartender is alive at the time. Jones stressed that no charges have yet been filed against him, saying that, although unfortunate, anticipation of the stabbing was "blowing the incident all out of proportion." "This Saturday will mark my sixth arrest, or possibly seventh. I can't tell the future," Jones said, shaking his head in apparent anger. "Yet I won't get charged this time, either. They'll just be persecuting me for the stabbing that's going to happen because of the other stuff that already happened. Is that fair? I don't think that when Mr. Smart Mouth Darrent Wilson gets stabbed it should affect my career like that." "

Comment: This is stupid! BAYVILLE, N.Y. — A Long Island couple could go to jail after they were ordered to keep their young daughters quiet. William and Rachel Poczatek, who live in the village of Bayville, were hit with a notice of violation after neighbors complained about the couple's daughters, aged 5 and 11, who they said played too loudly around the family's backyard pool. The couple is due in court Wednesday to face the charge of violating a noise code usually reserved for "the shouting and crying of peddlers, hawkers and vendors which disturbs the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.' The penalty if convicted? According to the village code: $250 fine, 15 days in jail, or both for each day the offense continued. Rachel Poczatek, 43, said she didn't know how to solve the problem. "Should I muzzle my children?' Neighbor Mark Kostakis, whose wife, Angie, is listed as one of the complainants on the summons, said he began making audio recordings of the children to document the noise. He said he spent three years complaining to the village and the Poczateks. "This is it for me,' he said. "I don't work 12 hours a day to come home and listen to this....' Rachel Poczatek said her children should be allowed to play outside during the day, though she does tell them to be quiet. The notice ordering the Poczateks' children quiet described them as ""screaming and shouting' and causing an "unreasonable nuisance.'

Comment: They done took the Aborigine's land from them and now what they do own they want to restrict them on what they can and cannot do. They were a self-sustaining people now the Australian gov't want to treat them like pets or little children! Peep this article. This is only some of it. Here is the link for the whole thing, it's too lengthy to repost here: Australia to ban alcohol for Aborigines By ROD McGUIRK, Associated Press Writer Thu Jun 21, 6:00 AM ET CANBERRA, Australia - Australia's prime minister announced plans Thursday to ban pornography and alcohol for Aborigines in northern areas and tighten control over their welfare benefits to fight child sex abuse among them. ADVERTISEMENT Some Aboriginal leaders rejected the plan as paternalistic and said the measures were discriminatory and would violate the civil rights of the country's original inhabitants. But others applauded the initiative and recommended extending the welfare restrictions to Aborigines in other parts of the country. Prime Minister John Howard was responding to a report last week that found sexual abuse of children to be rampant in indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. The report said the abuse was fueled by endemic alcohol abuse, unemployment, poverty and other factors causing a breakdown in traditional society. "This is a national emergency," Howard told Parliament. "We're dealing with a group of young Australians for whom the concept of childhood innocence has never been present." Howard announced the measures for the Northern Territory, an Outback region where the federal government retains powers it doesn't have over Australia's six states. He urged state leaders to apply similar tough rules in their jurisdictions. The federal government can change laws in the territory with an act of Parliament, where Howard has a majority that ensures he can implement his policy. Australia is home to about 400,000 Aborigines. About 60,000 live in the Northern Territory, often in isolated, impoverished communities where jobs are scarce and substance abuse is widespread. The land was returned to them over the past 30 years and accounts for about half the Northern Territory, which is about twice the size of Texas. The plan angered some Aboriginal leaders, who said it was the kind of government behavior that has disenfranchised Aborigines and created the problems in the first place. They also complained they had not been consulted; the government had not previously indicated it was considering such action. "I'm absolutely disgusted by this patronizing government control," said Mitch, a member of a government board helping Aborigines who were taken from their parents under past assimilation laws who uses one name. "And tying drinking with welfare payments is just disgusting." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070621/ap_on_re_au_an/aus tralia_aborigines

Comment: WTH???? _ _ TriMet Chief Apologizes To Lesbian Teens POSTED: 5:18 pm PDT June 20, 2007 UPDATED: 6:01 pm PDT June 20, 2007 PORTLAND, Ore. -- A transit agency chief apologized Wednesday to the families of two lesbian teenagers who were kicked off a bus when a passenger complained about them kissing each other. "Removing the girls from the bus was not consistent with our policy," said TriMet General Manager Fred Hansen. "I want to reiterate that we welcome all riders on our system." The 64-year-old bus driver will face disciplinary action for removing the two 14-year-old girls during a June 8 incident aboard his bus, TriMet officials said. But no details about the discipline were released. The driver, an 11-year veteran, violated several agency procedures and policies, officials said. The girls said the driver called them "sickos" after a female passenger complained about their kiss. He then stopped the bus along the street and forced them off. The actions by the girls did not warrant being removed from the bus, and TriMet policy requires operators to call for assistance before removing any minors, TriMet said in a statement released Wednesday. "TriMet sincerely apologizes to the girls and their families for this incident," Hansen said in the statement. The mother of one of the girls, Ronnda Zezula, welcomed the apology. "The only thing I had a problem with is they didn't really address why the driver broke those policies," Zezula said. "He knew it was wrong. He's been a driver for 11 years." She also said she wished the agency had made the extent of the disciplinary action public to show it will not "be just a slap on the wrist." Zezula said the family has been encouraged to consider a lawsuit, but they will "have to mull it over." Melissa Chernaik, spokeswoman for Basic Rights Oregon, said the gay rights group has been in contact with Zezula and "we share the same set of concerns." But Chernaik said the chief concern was that the girls were put in an unsafe situation. "The fact that they were possibly singled out because they were two girls is obviously problematic," Chernaik said. "But the big issue is that teenagers were put at risk and they should not be. Keeping kids safe is really the problem, and it sounds like TriMet is dealing with that, as they should be."

Comment: Isaiah Washington: 'They Fired the Wrong Guy'. THURSDAY JUNE 21, 2007 01:15 PM EDT, By Stephen M. Silverman. Isaiah Washington, whose contract was not renewed for season four of Grey's Anatomy, is now saying ABC made a mistake letting him go. "They fired the wrong guy," the actor, 43, tells his hometown paper, the Houston Chronicle. "I have to clear my name. I'll start from the beginning. I'm telling everything." Washington came under fire last fall after getting into an altercation with co-star Patrick Dempsey, during which he allegedly referred to castmate T.R. Knight using a homophobic slur. He later apologized, checked into rehab, met with gay leaders and released a public-service announcement decrying the use of hate speech. Now the actor, speaking over the phone from the set of his new movie, The Least of These, tells the Chronicle that the incident with Dempsey and Knight has been misconstrued, and that Knight is to blame for promoting the notion that the derogatory term was used against him. "That's a lie," Washington says. "I used the word during a disagreement with Patrick. I apologized for that. We shook hands and went back to work." In January, Knight told Ellen DeGeneres on her show that hearing the slur made him decide to reveal publicly that he's gay. "I've never been called that to my face. So I think when that happened, something shifted, and it became bigger than myself." Washington tells the Chronicle that he was wronged and may file a lawsuit. "My livelihood, my honor and dignity and my name have been so challenged," he says (The paper has no comment from Knight, and says network executives declined to comment.) Adds Washington: "I was not fired for making homophobic slurs. I did everything I said I would do. I offered to go to counseling, to do a public service announcement. I wanted everyone to know I was remorseful." Still, he says of his firing: "I'm not angry. I'm disappointed."

Comment: >cali, that's true. I recall watching something on TV One and a black woman that was a journalist said that she complained and asked her boss why black missing people aren't covered...she said his response was, because it won't get media coverage. Amerikkka is more interesting in attractive missing yt women. Think about it, that's all you see, you NEVER hear national news about any missing black person whether it be male or female. We just aren't important enough for Amerikkka. Same with magazine covers...the only people that you're gonna see on the covers of magazines (that aren't Ebony, Essence or Jet) is Beyonce, maybe Jada Pinkett-Smith, and maybe Queen Latifah. Face it peoples, we're not important enough to generate money through the media (so they think w/ their ignit as*ses). SMH

Comment: SIMMONE Jade MacKinnon, star of McLeod's Daughters, has been rocked by news the man she was set to marry has allegedly fathered a child with former Cosby Show actress, Lisa Bonet. MacKinnon, a Gold Logie nominee, was due to marry actor Jason Momoa this year, but shocked friends and colleagues when the pair ended their affair abruptly last December. The couple, who were together for seven years, were planning to wed in Hawaii after Jason proposed in 2004. But news of Bonet's pregnancy has now raised eyebrows as to why Momoa may have called off his relationship with the Aussie TV star last year. Bonet, 39, has been snapped strolling through flea markets in Pasadena, California looking heavily pregnant. MacKinnon, who met Momoa on the set of Baywatch in 1999, told Confidential she was ``upset' by news of Bonet's pregnancy. "Honestly, it's a shock and of course this news has been upsetting,' she said. "But I have moved on and I am very happy and enjoying a great relationship with someone else.' Momoa's love child will be Bonet's third. She has a daughter Zoe to singer Lenny Kravitz and a son Desikacher, to a Los Angeles yoga instructor Brian Kest. MacKinnon is believed to have financially supported Momoa during their relationship until he got a full-time role on a US soap in 2004. The 27-year-old Kravitz lookalike now appears on an American sci-fi TV show, Stargate Atlantis
